Bodegas Ysios

Inaugurated in 2001, the Ysios winery, located in the outskirts of Laguardia (about two kilometers away), Rioja Alavesa, occupy a building designed by architect Santiago Calatrava, next to the Sierra de Cantabria and built in a way that it is integrated into the landscape.

Along with Marqués de Riscal, they are at the top of the ranking of avant-garde buildings inside a traditional wine industry.

The outside is formed by wood beams supported on the lateral walls, creating an undulated surface. The material used in the outside is aluminum, which contrasts with the wood in the walls. The interior of the winery accompanies the avant-garde conception of the outside.

The spectacular building of the Ysios Winery was designed by Santiago Calatrava and inaugurated in 2001. It is the first “signature winery” of La Rioja and it is inspired in the stylized form of a row of barrels.

Completely avant-garde, the beauty of the building heightens with the surrounding landscape. This winery must be visited while in the Rioja Alavesa.

The tour is very interesting and it allows you to see the stages of the production of wine. At the end you can taste some wine in a beautiful room with views of the landscape.

The visits must be booked in advance, Monday to Friday 11 am, 13 pm and 16 pm.

It is an impressive winery that surprises you with its architecture. It is worth visiting it to know this place that produces high quality wines.

I recommend that you buy some of its best wines (the ones they distribute in the restaurants with Michelin stars, the Chillida one…) or their Ysios wine.

A curious fact: if you choose a good viewpoint you can appreciate that the building reflected in the pond that surrounds the building simulates a row of lined barrels. The price of the visit is five Euros, including tasting.
