Staying at the Wurtz
Jess emails on Friday -- they have the Wurtz cabin for the weekend. Do we want to head up? Laura has to run on Sunday, so on Saturday afternoon I load the truck, grab a coffee, and make the two-hour drive to Columbia Falls. Topping off the gas tank, I take the North Fork road, and almost immediately the vastness of the North Fork takes over -- dense forests, a wide river, and Glacier's peaks. 48 miles later, with dusk in the air, I pull into the cabin. Jess and Ben have a campfire. We have some beers and enjoy the evening, only to realize that even though it's still light out, it's almost 11 p.m.
Bedtime. In the morning, Ben makes Bacon on the Wurtz's famous Wolf range (I'd like to know the story of how that thing got up here) and Jess makes eggs. After coffee and brekkie we split -- they to head to Whitefish, me to head to Logan Pass.
