Contemporary Art
Würth is a screws company (mainly), and although this may sound like a place few may want to visit, in reality it is the coolest place I’ve seen in a long time. Pieces by Picasso, Magritte, Warhol and Lichtenstein in the middle of nowhere? Yes. I am super enthusiastic when it comes to taking advantage of industrial spaces to house art pieces (like the slaughterhouse in Madrid), so this Würth museum has won me over.
Würth is a big German company that manufactures screws and other machinery (all very German) and its owner, Reinhold Würth, an art collector, decided in 2007 to open in the small town of Agoncillo one of the offices of its Foundation.
About 15 kilometers from Logroño, in the middle of the industrial park of Sequero, an old remodeled factory functions as an art gallery and houses a small permanent collection and temporal exhibits. The temporary exhibit I saw was the 75/65, it reviews the 75 years of Mr. Würth and the 65 years of his company’s activity. It does so with 75 pieces from his private art collection which include, attention please, Picassos, Magrittes, and other artistic tendencies of the 20th Century. They explained to me that, even though it was a temporary exhibit, that all of this material belongs to the Foundation, so it is possible that one can see these specific works of art again. You can check the agenda in its website.
It is a bit adventurous to get there without a car, but worth it. The website says that you can call to check the availability of the free buses (t941 010 410), but in the Tourist Office they told me that this doesn’t work anymore and that I had to take the M7. It leaves from the center of Logroño and it takes about half an hour. You can check the timetable in larioja.org. If you like contemporary art, you can’t miss this place.
