Ringebu Wooden Church

Located in the municipality of Opplad you can find the wooden church in the town of Ringebu. This church is still standing dating back to 1220-1225 and only in the 1600s was it rebuilt to be enlarged to accommodate more people. By the year 1970 the church suffered moisture problems due to water leakage caused by the cemetery that surrounds it. The repairs lasted until 1980-81 and it was during this period that, to try to solve the problem, it was excavated on the north side and they came to find archaeological remains from various eras, the oldest belonging to 180 -400 AD. This opening a suitable foundation to display such objects as well as paintings and archival documents belonging to the church.
