Wooden Bridge Morca

La posizione isolata, sulla sponda sinistra del fiume Sesia, ha sempre legato le vicende di Morca a quelle spesso drammatiche delle piene del fiume. Il collegamento tra le due sponde del fiume era risolto con una barca che attraversava il fiume in un'ansa particolarmente tranquilla. Nella seconda metà dell'Ottocento fu costruito un ponte sospeso di 65 metri di luce,su progetto dell'Ing. Giuseppe Antonini, ma la costruzione non resistette alla piena del fiume del 1918, andando completamente distrutto. L'attraversamento del fiume fu così affidato a passarelle sospese e una pericoloso funicolare, sino a quando nel 1928 fu completato il ponte attuale, sotto direzione dell'Ing. Giuseppe Magistrini. Il ponte come appare oggi è opera di una ristrutturazione recente, nel 2003, ma ha mantenuto tutte le caratteristiche del progetto originale, risultando un esempio quasi unico in Italia di ponte sospeso in legno in grado di sopportare il transito delle automobili.

The isolated location on the left bank of the river Sesia, has always linked the story of Morca to those often dramatic flooding of the river.
