Opera House and Something More
This name mislead you, these "Winter Gardens" are anything but gardens. This complex is one of the city's historic buildings and sights. In the beginning it was known and conceived as an opera house (to make the city more glamourous in the early 20th century) but is currently a more versatile building. It still holds operas (increasingly less) but is also hired for private events (weddings, baptisms and communions). They host various dance academies in the city. Outside there are shops and premises (most are closed or up for Lease). It even functions as a conference centre. To define this building under one heading is complicated.
The only thing that can be appreciated in certain parts is its majesty that it had in its days of glory and splendor, but now we see that very well maintained, which removes elegance and especially at the back gives a rather marginal look. To have all the social functions it has and to be a local pride, I think this building needs a facelift (refurbishment) to show visitors to Blackpool the importance and excellence it has.
