Hike in Forest Park
Behold Forest Park, a 5,100 acre wooded area nestled up to Portland. It's the largest forested natural area within city limits in the U.S. For an outdoorsy person, it's a must-see in Portland. The Wildwood Trail is a great trail to hike. It's a 30 mile long loop system within Forest Park. Open year round, but best conditions are in the late-spring, summer, and fall. A common starting place is in Northwest Portland. It's an easy-moderate hike with some incline and a well maintained path. Beautiful, lush forest will surround you and the natural beauty will astonish you. An interesting landmark on the trail is the stone house, an abandoned stone structure that used to be a public restroom built in the 1930s.
A storm eventually took out the water line, and it was never repaired. Today, it serves as a great break or lunch spot on this lovely hike. The trail can see a lot of traffic on nice weekend afternoons, so venture far in or seek a different trail further outside of portland if you want to get away from people. However, it's convenience to Portland will be forever cherished. Don't miss it!
