Within the modern temple of Ayutthaya is a large bronze Buddha, originally located just outside the Grand Palace. The ancient temple was destroyed dramatically by fire during the second fall of the city. In the courtyard in front of the building is where cremation rites took place. It's free to visit, but remember to remove your shoes before you enter a sacred Buddhist site. Within, the Buddha dominates the room entirely, and there's a central altar where the faithful light incense, and kneel to pray.
