Whithorn Village
Whithorn is a lovely little seaside town which has obtained the title of a royal burgh. It has only a few thousand inhabitants and is located on the south west coast, almost on the border with England. Daily life revolves around three main locations. The first is George street, the main street and village center, which goes right across the town. The second is the grounds of the ancient abbey, together with the local history museum. This area is of great historical importance because it was where, in the fourth century, St. Ninian established what is known as the first Christian center in Scottish history.
It is often named as the birthplace of Christianity. The third location is the area of the beach and bay, where you find the holy cave and great views. The historical importance here is such that there is a local association that preserves and promotes the history of the place. However, the people are beautiful as is the surrounding. It's worth a visit as you can see one of the lesser known areas of Scotland.
