Remarkable feats of engineering
Located a few kilometers from the town of Santa Fe de Antioquia is one of the largest suspension bridges in the world. It has been declared a historical heritage site by Colombia. This bridge that spans the Cauca river is one of the most remarkable feats of engineering of the 19th century. The bridge is supported by four pyramidal towers, two on each side of the river, which support the four cables that suspend the bridge deck (4 per beam). The cables are anchored into brick masonry structures located on either bank of the Rio Cauca. The bridge floor is made of wood.
