Wellawaya Road - Ella

The Wellawaya road offers one of the best landscapes in the country. While Wellawaya is in a very flat meadow, it is also in the mountains. The bus huffs and puffs along the 30 km climb up to the top. There isn't any minibus transport, unless you rent the entire vehicle. The bus costs about 27Rs, or fifteen cents, but don't hesitate to get off to visit various points of interest that are on the way, or just to admire the view. Buses to Haputale, Bandarawela, and Wedigama all pass along the the Wellawaya road, so you'll never be standing waiting for the next bus until nighttime. Before coming to the end, around kilometre 25, there are beautiful waterfalls where you can take a refreshing swim.
