Me encantó Waterland, el contacto con los delfines, el entrenamiento en el cual le permiten los entrenadores participar al turista, la experiencia. La Cuento aquí relatando la conversación que tuve con sus trabajadores: Alejandro Vargas dice sentirse feliz viviendo en Pampatar. Tiene la fortuna de compartir de cerca con seis de estos animales que han sido entrenados para que aplaudan, besen y naden con los cientos de turistas que se acercan a sus instalaciones. “Yo llevo casi 25 años en contacto con los delfines y la verdad es que esto ya no forma parte de mi trabajo, es mi forma de vida. Estos animales son tan nobles que cambian tu visión de la vida y a quienes trabajamos aquí nos da gusto ver como las sonrisas afloran ante el contacto con ellos”. Por eso en el espacio donde está ubicado el estanque todo es risas. Niños, jóvenes y adultos aplauden ante las piruetas y ríen con las picardías de los anfitriones. Pero también asegura Damián Alquicira que la labor de este centro va más allá de entretener. Él se desempeña allí como médico y se encarga de generar estimulaciones en ciertas condiciones médicas a través del contacto con el cetáceo, “la mayoría de nuestros pacientes vienen a través de fundaciones, lo que nos permite ayudar a mucha más gente”.
