Cultural exchange in Kyoto
WAK Japan is a women's cooperative which offers tourists the opportunity to learn traditional arts from local housewives. My mother and I took the Ikebana (flower arranging) course. Our instructor was very skilled and able to explain this complex art in simple terms. We both had a go ourselves and with a few well placed adjustments by our instructor turned out two passable arrangements. My partner took the cooking course which he really enjoyed. We are now enjoying miso soup on a weekly basis.
