A casual approach to fine dining can be found secluded in the tiny beach town of Figueira da Foz where as much love and attention that goes into the food can be found in the restaurants theme of Volta e Meia, meaning to go and return.
If you love world maps, travel, bicycles, eclectic dishes & large portions of Mediterranean inspired food, this is the place for you. We immediately decided to eat there based on the appeal of the restaurants ambiance alone. There are two separate rooms you can choose to sit in. A large map of the world was at the end of the room separate from the kitchen where diners are invited stick post it notes and thoughts from where they are from.
The owner was quite friendly & we started off with a tomato soup that was tasty enough. Nothing too special, and then the dishes came out. I had the salmon and my boyfriend opted for the chicken breast, both huge portions we weren't anticipating. Both came with potatoes and steamed broccoli and we split a side of grilled vegetables the, likes of which ended up being the best part of the meal. The food itself wasn't bad, just overly salty, & lacking seasoning. Our meal was about 25 Euros in total, and we took away a sweet bean tartlette for dessert which ended up being absolutely amazing.
I give this a great because the concept is so incredible and it's so well designed, and fun just to experience. Make sure to ask for easy salt on your dish, and you should have a really nice dining experience in this quaint little beach city.
