Spectacular and unique!
Bodegas Cava San José was founded in 1963 by fifteen neighbors in the town of Villafranca de los Barros and currently has over 1100 members. The San José Extremeño Wine Cooperative is located right on the Silver Route and has a long wine-producing tradition.
The vineyards are located in the sub-region of Tierra de Barros amid rolling ochre hills that are more traditionally associated with olive production than fine wines. However, San José’s main objective is maximum quality in the creation of its wines, a goal which has been achieved through the fusion of unrelenting effort, traditional methods, and modern technology. This is what makes this winery one of Extremadura’s most impressive as well as a fundamental visit along the Ribera del Guadiana Wine Route.
It covers a surface area of over 20,000 square meters and produces in excess of 50 million kilograms of grapes. The harvest season (August-September) is especially spectacular and makes for a truly memorable experience. They also have their best wines for sale to the public.
