Uña

In the middle of the Serranía de Cuenca, at about five kilometers from the Enchanted City, you will find this beautiful little village. Although the locals assure that the village turns into frenzy during the summer, in the springtime you can feel an incomparable atmosphere of calm and peace. The village is surrounded by the cliffs of the Serranía, and it also has a lovely pond in the center: the real star of the village. The square is a very nice place where you can spend some time after lunch, by the shadow of the fruit trees in bloom.

If you want to stay there you have two options: a rural cottage for a good price and a hostel/camping for an even better price. The village also has two bars, where you can buy local wine, and a grocery store on the shore of the lake.

This town of the Serranía de Cuenca, located between the lake-swamp and the Jucar River is on the way between Cuenca and the mountains of La Toba, Las Majadas, El Hosquillo, the source of Cuervo River, Los Callejones, Tragacete and other places. You can get there from the city of Cuenca by taking the CU-921 road towards Villalba de la Sierra, where the Hoz del Júcar starts, next to the hydroelectric central and the Ventano del Diablo. You can also get there from the Alto Tajo via Beteta and Tragacete.

The beauty of this lake-swamp lies in its rich ecosystem of flora and fauna. "Los Cortados" ravine, next to the great height of the mountains that surround it, form a landscape of great beauty. In the urban development of the village, the highlights are San Miguel Arcángel Church (13th century), the tidy streets, fountains, parks, and the viewpoint of the lake. There is also the village of Unión Fenosa that is full of lovely houses (currently being reformed), and that is located next to the exit of the channel of the lake-swamp that supplies the electric power station of Villalba de la Sierra. Some of the young "canteiros" people of Castro Laboreiro participated in the building of the infrastructures of the swamp, channels and village in the years 1925 and 1926. We were lucky to hear the story of their stay in Uña and La Toba when we were kids.
