Most important sailing centres
Since the city's foundation in 18th century, Castries economic activity has been closely linked to the sea and its sheltered harbour. There is a marina apart from the two modern cruise terminals , Le Place Carenage and Pointe Seraphine . The marina is close to the airport (Vigie peninsula), in "Bananes Bay" .
There are many small sailing boats moored (Santa Lucia is one of the Caribbean's most important sailing centres), yachts and catamarans. Port amenities include ship repair and a yacht club. The surrounding area has many restaurants, hotels, duty-free shops (Castries is a Free-port) and beaches.
