A low cost airport

The Trapani-Birgi airport is located about 15 km south of the city, and until recently was a purely military airport. It is quite small, although it was remodeled and expanded in 2009, and is mostly used for domestic flights to and from different parts of Italy (Rome, Milan, Bari, Bologna ...) and low-cost airlines for international flights (we flew from Madrid with Ryanair). Thanks to these cheap airlines, it's the third busiest airport on the island of Sicily. The international code is TPS.

It has several car rental companies, a taxi rank and bus stop, ATM, bar-restaurant-cafe, duty free area, newsagent, tourist office, and two paid parking areas.

To get to Trapani, there's a bus that runs every 30 minutes and will drop you at the town bus station or port, for 4.50 (a taxi will cost about 30 euros). From the airport you also have buses to go to Palermo, Marsala and Agrigento. A warning if you fly with Ryanair with hand luggage only: on the outbound flight there are no problems, but they weigh your suitcase in this airport, and expect to pay if you're a hair over 10 kg...
