Amazing rock formations in LA County
Rock climbers, nature lovers, non-rock climbers, and geography/geology enthusiasts will love Vasquez Rocks, a free park managed by LA County that showcases rock formations that came into existence millions of years ago. It is also on the National Register of Historic Places because it was formerly inhabited by Native Americans. The rocks are also fun to climb regardless of whether or not you're an experienced climber. They have pretty good grip and both children, adolescents and adults frequently make it to the tip of the rock. Even climbing up to whatever distance you're comfortable with is a fun adventure.
Entrance to the park is free, and so is parking. However, much of the pathways are unpaved, so be sure to drive slowly or drive an appropriate vehicle. It's a vast park that also has tables around site for picnics, meals, etc. There isn't much shade in the area, so be sure to bring sunscreen and water. (Fun fact: Vasquez Rocks was featured in a number of films and TV shows, but perhaps more popularly known is its appearance as the Command Center for the Power Rangers.)
