Vártemplom

La Iglesia del Castillo (“Vártemplom” en idioma húngaro) es uno de los templos más importantes de la ciudad de Szolnok, y el más grande de la zona de la ciudad que se encuentra al costado este del río Zagyva. Se trata de una iglesia católica romana ubicada a un costado de la Plaza de San Esteban. En el sitio actual de la iglesia, originalmente se encontraba una mezquita construida durante el período de ocupación del Imperio Otomano en Hungría. Después de la construcción del primer templo católico, este fue severamente dañado durante un ataque rumano en 1919. Con la torre hecha escombros y la estructura a punto de colapsar, el sitio tuvo que ser reconstruido en su totalidad. Recientemente, en el año 2001, se instaló frente a la iglesia una estatua de San Esteban. Si bien el lugar está un poco alejado del casco histórico de la ciudad, merece la pena ser visitado durante tu paseo por Szolnok.

With the tower made debris and the structure about to collapse, the site had to be rebuilt in its entirety. Recently, in 2001, a statue of St. Stephen was installed in front of the church. Although the place is a bit away from the historic center of the city, it is worth visiting during your walk around Szolnok.
