Valverde de Los Arroyos

It is one of the most beautiful towns of Guadalajara. All of its houses are made up of slate, and they have been recently remodeled. The whole town is in good condition, it is a nice experience walking through it. From there starts a route that goes up to the peak of Ocejón. In fact, from the town you can already enjoy the wonderful views that the Ocejón offers from the background.

When one thinks of visiting the black towns of Guadalajara, one is obliged to choose one of the two possible routes. Circumstantially, I made a mistake while choosing the route. However, it was a joyful mistake, since I saw very beautiful towns, and it means that the next time I’m there I will visit something different.

It has really beautiful corners, the towns have been restored, which gives them a noble air that no doubt gives an idea of the way they used to be. They did a good job and I recommend going there.

You can see that the name is meaningful, Valverde de los Arroyos (Valverde of the Streams): from each street of the town little (artificial) streams called “channels” are used to irrigate the orchards. But if you go into its forests and mountains you will see that there are also artificial ones but also natural ones.

Years ago there was plenty of water in the area, the waterfall occupied almost the entire stone wall, and there were many small streams and springs of water that brought the water down from the mountain. It used to be named Villaverde del Osejón, making reference to the bears that used to live in the Ocejón mount.
