Valcea

The Valcea region is in the center of Romania, which has a rich history and many beautiful places to discover. Firstly its capital, Dragasani, which was built on the ruins of a Roman site, and is a great town with a reputation for having one of the best wines in Romania. In the Valachia region, they also grow good fruit and make good cheese from sheep and cow milk which you can buy at the roadside on the way back to Bucharest at a great price. Local attractions include the Olt River valley, with beautiful monasteries, such as Cozia or Turnu, Lotru River Valley, which is more of a leisure resort where you can go hiking, camping, and get to know the city Ramnicu Valcea.

It's three hours from Bucharest and as there are usually a lot of traffic and roadworks, it's hard to only spend a few days in the region, I recommend that you take three or four days at least to fully explore and appreciate it.

Valcea region in the center of Romania,...
