The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum (located in Washington) is the official Holocaust memorial. Next to the National Mall in Washington D.C., the USHMM provides documentation, research and interpretation of the history of the Holocaust. It is also dedicated to helping leaders and citizens of the world to confront hatred, prevent genocide, promote human dignity and to strengthen democracy. The museum has a staff of about 400 employees, 125 contractors, 650 volunteers and 91 survivors of the Holocaust out of the 175,000.
