Founded in 1973
The headquarters of the University of Minho is in Central Avenue, next to the Church of the Banded. In fact, the building is arranged around a beautiful central cloister belonging to the Convent of the Banded. It's a public university, one of the largest Portugal, founded in 1973. In Braga you can study Science, Social Sciences, Economics and Management, Arts, Law and Health Sciences; Engineering, Architecture, Geography and Statistics are studied in nearby Guimaraes. The University also offers a range of postgraduate and master's degrees, and the Chancellor is in the former Palace of the Republic Bracarense in Largo do Paço.
The University of Minho depends on other cultural centers, such as the District Archive of Braga-Public Library, the Exhibition Hall-Casa Museu Moncao and the Museum Nogueira da Silva. Braga has another university, the Portuguese Catholic University, in the Camões Campus.
