Udine Cathedral

Il Duomo di Udine è una grande chiesa a tre navate, consacrata il 16 giugno 1335 con il nome di Santa Maria Annunziata. Subì diversi rifacimenti e ampliamenti durante i secoli successivi, ma tutt'ora conserva opere pregevoli. La facciata presenta uno stile tra il romanico e il gotico. Interessanti i portali, sia quello della Redenzione sulla facciata principale, sia quello dell'Incoronazione, vicino al campanile. L'interno è barocco e, fra le tante opere, ne conserva anche alcune di Gianbattista Tiepolo: sulla navata destra, l'altare con la pala della Santissima Trinità nella prima cappella, la pala raffigurante i Santi Ermacora e Fortunato (patroni di Udine) nella seconda cappella e, infine, la quarta cappella (quella del Santissimo Sacramento), tutta decorata da affreschi del Tiepolo, che dipinge anche la pala sopra il tabernacolo.

The Cathedral of Udine is a large three-nave church, consecrated June 16, 1335 with the name of Santa Maria Annunziata. Underwent several renovations and expansions during the following centuries, but still preserves valuable works. The facade has a style between Romanesque and Gothic. Interesting portals, both of Redemption on the main facade, is one of the Coronation, near the bell tower. The interior is Baroque, among many works, it also preserves some of Giambattista Tiepolo: on the right aisle, the altar and the altarpiece of the Holy Trinity in the first chapel, the altarpiece depicting the Saints Ermacora and Fortunato (patrons of Udine) in the second chapel and, finally, the fourth chapel (that of the Blessed Sacrament), all decorated with frescoes by Tiepolo, who also painted the altarpiece above the tabernacle.
