Less touristy
The Tunco, compared with some nearby beaches of Guatemala, has the main advantage of not attracting too many tourist. San Salvador is a half an hour drive, which becomes less touristy than Monterrico, but with the same charms. A few kilometres away is the largest city, Puerto La Libertad which has supermarkets and large shops. In Tunco, which is more a village than a city, is surrounded by small hotels, the prices correspond to the average Salvadoran (in U.S. dollars), that is not so cheap for those who are traveling on a low budget. Howeverthe places are pretty good as the beach is not too crowded with umbrellas and sunbathing tourists, and according to the area where you deicde to sunbathe or learn to surf with one of the young people who will give lessons for a few dollars per hour, or bathing in calmer waters if they are about 30 meters from the surf spot.
