Fontana del Tritone

E' una delle tante opere di Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Realizzata in travertino, la troviamo in uno dei punti del centro storico della città più interessanti. Infatti, la "fontana" è installata e fa bella modtra di se in "Piazza Barberini", uno dei crocevia, degli snodi del centro storico: da un lato la via che ha lostesso nome della piazza (Barberini); dall'altro la famosa via della "Dolce Vita" (Via Vittorio Veneto); ed ancora, "Via Sistina" (dove troviamo il famoso teatro reso celebre dall'importante attività di "Garinei&Giovannini" ed il prestigioso "Hotel Hasler") per raggiungere "Trinità dei Monti" e la sottostante "Piazza di Spagna"; "Via del Tritone" per raggiungere "Palazzo Chigi" (sede del Governo) - la "Fontana di Trevi" - la "Galleria Colonna" - "Montecitorio" (sede della Camera dei Deputati) e poco più in là il "Pantheon" e "Piazza Navona"- Ma, nella zona, ci sono molte altre cose. Tornando alla fontana, il Bernini ha raffigurato un Tritone accovacciato su una conchiglia, a sua volta sorretta dalla coda di quattro delfini. Il "tritone" soffia all'interno di una conchiglia, da lui sostenuta e dalla quale fuoriesce dell'acqua che ricade nella vasca sottostante. Il Bernini ha completato la sua opera inserendo due cose simboliche: le "chiavi", stemma dei Pontefici; le "api", stemma araldico dei Barberini.
