Trim Castle

Trim Castle is the largest Anglo-Norman castle in Ireland and its construction, which lasted about thirty years, was entrusted to Hugh de Lacy and his son Walter. The castle became the administrative center in 1172 and Hugh de Lacy received the Freedom of Meath by King Henry II. What stands out about the castle, apart from its walls, is the main tower. It has three floors that were constructed in 1176. It is also characterized by a powerful defensive system. The castle is strategically located on high ground near the river Boyne.
