Tree "Bodhi"

El árbol Bodhi es un árbol sagrado de la religión budista. Su nombre significa el árbol de la iluminación, y es debajo de este árbol que Buddha, entonces un joven príncipe consentido, llegó a la iluminación y empezó sus enseñanzas. El árbol original está en la India pero la gente se llevó ramas por todo el mundo para plantar "sub-árboles" sagrados. Alrededor, el monasterio de Yatagala rajamaha viharaya, es viejo de 2300 años. Los monjes consiguieron los fondos para rodear el árbol de una barrera dorada, y también instalaron una estatua representando al Buddha meditando debajo del árbol. La gente, cuando llega de peregrinaje a rezar al lado del árbol, deja unos deseos que escribe en tejidos de color y deja colgando alrededor del árbol. Es un lugar muy santo del budismo en Sri Lanka.
