Trams in Oporto

The tram (or the electric) is actually more than just a means of transportation, it's also a tourist attraction, due to the growing popularity of the metro and other high-speed, modern transportation. Only about a half dozen trams operate on four lines, but the tram system is not without its own charm when you're taking a ride in one of these old "electric cars" in the middle of the city. You can visit the Electric Trolley Museum , which allows you to get up close and personal with several refurbished electric cars.

There is also a modern subway line that runs through the upper Luis I Bridge to Porto that connects with Vila Nova de Gaia , on the other side of the Duero.

Porto is a city torn between modernity...

Porto is a city torn between modernity and tradition thus maintaining a delicate balance between "new" and "old" for obvious passing safely make the most emblematic of his past. Suffice it to recall and remain, fully integrated into the life of the city, such picturesque places, as in "another time" as Bolhao Market, the neighborhood of Barredo, coffee Majestic, the bookstore Lello and many other places that seem to have been trapped in the past for the enjoyment of the traveler. With these premises, the best way to begin our journey in time is around the city in one of the dilapidated trams that run through the streets of Porto. Saved from scrap and recovered from oblivion the electrical pose an economical, quick and convenient way to visit the most attractive places of this beautiful city. Today circulate in the city's three tram lines which, I think, cover much of the most interesting tourist itineraries for tourists. These lines 1, 18 and 22. The path line 18 (Massarelos - Carmo) is undoubtedly one of the most complete. Trams help create a very special atmosphere in the streets along which, muted colors, its grinding characteristic wicker seats us back to ancient times and create an aura of nostalgia certain charm. As a historical note I commented that it was in Oporto where recirculated the first tram of the Iberian Peninsula, there is nothing. Although a bit late since much of our heritage has succumbed to a misunderstood modernity perhaps we should follow the example of our neighbors and try to combine lusos "new" and "old" way as picturesque as they do ...
