Charleroi Town Hall
The municipality of Charleroi is located right in the place of Roi Charles. In 1887 the city was moved from the Hall Courthouse after a monumental work by the architects Joseph André and Jules Cezar, blending classical and Art Deco. On the sides there are two allegories of Marcel Rrau: the family and the city administration. The bas-reliefs of the balconies, designed by Oscar de Clerck, represent the various matters pertaining to the city council: finance, accounting, public education, police, marriages, births and deaths. The interior is decorated with marble and brass, wood paneling and luxurious upholstery.
In addition to being the Town Hall, the building is also the Museum of Fine Arts. To access the museum, you enter from the Manege Square. On the door, there are 47 bells that jingle every hour. The tocsin has been declared a site of artistic interest in the UNESCO world heritage.
