Simonetta Di Zanutto
A symbol of Lodi
This cylindrical tower is the only surviving part of the castle, and is one of the symbols of Lodi. The castle was built by Barnabas Visconti in the year 1370, as an impregnable fortress surrounded by deep moats, and equipped with powerful walls. In the eighteenth century, the building housed a barracks. Today, the south side has been partially restored, and houses the police station. The tower has remained intact to the present day, and is a reminder of the former grandeur that was commissioned by Francesco Sforza to defend the western side of the city.
