A Silent Place

If you want to escape from the usual set of tourists that can be found in Ireland, and "discover" a silent, shadowy and evocative plaace that's full of history and legends (relatively easy to come by in the Emerald Isle), then this is the place for you! It's a cylindrical tower and a Celtic cross, surrounded by a cemetery with graves of all time, hide in a grove near the village of Kells, a few kilometers south of the city of Kilkenny. There is a sign indicating the path that leads you from the magnificent Abbey of Kells, also rarely visited. They say an Irish king was buried here. A lone Celtic cross a few meters from the tower, marks the spot.

They say that this king was drowned in the King's River in Callan, when he was trying to save one of his servants. The strong current dragged him to Kells and his remains rest there, outside the cemetery, because he was not a Christian. What more could you possibly want than to get close to where he rests in peace with his halo?
