We got a surprise

The first time we wanted a map of Chinchon we used the Office of Tourism and we got a surprise. We were in the square, so we headed to the town hall which is almost at the square's entrance. A policeman informed us that the Municipal Tourism Office was in the town hall but that it was on the side and pointed to an open gate. We remembered on a previously seeing that gate closed - it had been closed as they open at 10:00 and close on weekends/holidays at 15:00, the rest of the time they close at 20:00. Logically the gate opening coincides with the operation of the Municipal Tourism Office. It's on a historic site and is as endearing as the villa laundry.

That was the surprise when we entered - a courtyard with a large tank in the center, which I immediately recognized it as a public utility. Finally, after a small ramp, which found our objective (the Tourist Office explained) where we found out where Chinchon's most characteristic monuments were and filled our bags with all kinds of brochures. Our grandmothers and some of our mothers used a laundry, it was more than simply the predecessor of the washing machine as there was social life and gossip as well as daily chores. It has been an irreplaceable element in small towns. Since Chinchon's laundry is in the square it indicates its importance and it is good that it has been rehabilitated and preserved for generations to come. The Tourist Office is equipped for its work, but I would recommend a signpost in the yard because one enters without knowing where to go. Which, on the other hand, increases the surprise to find not a classic but modern office in a historic laundry in a medieval enclosure. The people are friendly, as is to be expected of an area that practically lives on tourism.
