At the foot of Harteigen
The path from Stavali to Torehytten first skirts around Lornavatnet lake. Closer to Ullensvang we see some sheep and small shepherds huts. As the day wears on we move into a vast treeless wilderness, filled with a thousand icy lakes, fast running streams and rock. The track is marked with cairns and letter Ts painted in red. We marvel at the workmanship of some of the cairns, which wouldn't be out of place in a sculpture garden.
As we move to higher ground we get our first glance of Harteigen. The 1690m peak dominates the area looking like a 'burnt panettone'. Sorry to any Norwegians but this was our most poetic description.
