A vacation in paradise!
This was my first trip to a tropical destination, and I couldn't have made a better choice. The Thulaghiri Resort is located in North Male Atoll, about 30 minutes by speedboat from the airport. It's on an oval-shaped island, approximately 300m x 300m. If you want to book, you'll have to go directly through the resort's website. When I went the prices were reasonable, but I was browsing some catalogues a while later, and I noticed that they had increased drastically. The resort only has one restaurant, with an international kitchen but an emphasis on spices and chili! There's not much entertainment - just the way I like it - nothing more than a little bit of music in the evenings at the bar beside the restaurant.
There is also a beach bar but it is only open during the day. The rooms are divided into beach bungalows and overwater bungalows. They are in the typical Maldivian style, spacious and well-kept. We opted for a beach bungalow. The snorkelling was amazing: we saw a myriad of colourful fish, turtles, dolphins and sharks. The reef isn't far away, and you can get there easily by swimming. There are several excursions on offer, including deep sea fishing, diving, the capital of Male, an island of fishermen, the deserted island of Kuda Bandos, and visits to two other resorts. As a lover of the sea, the experience was just perfect. Warm sea 24 hours a day, talcum powder-like sand ... I've never seen anything like it.
