Made of recycled weaponry
The throne was made by the Mozambican artist Cristovao Canhavato (Kester), constructed from decommissioned weapons collected since the end of the civil war in 1992. The throne is part of the TAE project - Transformação Armas em Enxadas (Transforming Arms into Tools), where weapons used by combatants on both sides can be voluntarily exchanged for agricultural, household and construction tools. The project was founded in 1995 in Maputo by Bishop Dinis Sengulane and the Christian Council of Mozambique, with the support of Christian Aid.
