A historic building built in 1717
Located in the Place Charles de Gaulle, the Grand Place de Lille, the North Theatre is a historic building built in 1717. It was built by Philippe d'Orléans, a few years after the death of King Louis XIV. In memory of the Sun King, you can see a sun carved into the stone facade. Previously, it was a symbol of royal power, as it was here that the kings guard used to stay. Over time, it eventually became a covered market. Now it is a national theater, divided into two parts, the old part, and a more modern building, Roger Salengro room, built two and a half centuries later.
