Paths of Sao Miguel

Excellent

Sao Miguel Island is an island of contrasts. The predominant green color contrasts with the deep blue sea and the reddish-black volcanic stone. One of the predominant landscapes are the meadows that stretch across the coastline. The entire center and north of the island is a must to see these landscapes. There's no need to look for them, if you drive on the roads near the sea you'l find wide meadows and valleys with small hamlets and farms with cattle and horses (especially cows). Such farms are often around a mountain or volcano and their skirts have intense green pastures to feed the animals.

Hiking is very common go through these meadows and farms closer to where local people performed their work and you can even see cattle crossing the paths. No doubt the North Meadows are an important part of the landscape on Sao Miguel so stopping on the way to contemplate is necessary if you like the countryside and nature.
