Something Off of a Postcard

I loved Nyhavn. It wasn't what I was expecting (major tourist attraction, tons of tourists, bars and traffic). It was really calm like it had just woken up, serene and quiet, full of light and color.
It wasn't difficult to imagine how it would be in full swing, back when it was an area for sailors and prostitutes, gambling houses and delinquency. Really it's the ideal setting for the image we have in our heads of where novels such as Moby Dick, or Jack London novels, could easily begin.

The Nihavn District

Copenhagen is not a very monumental city. You do not need much time to visit it since seeing the Winter Palace, Amalienborg, and Citadel Park and the stock market are the only noteworthy things to see. The Little Mermaid is on the outskirts of town and it's disappointing because of where it is located. What I did like was the colorful and lively Nyhavn, a neighborhood for sailors has become a lively canal area with preserved houses over 500 years old and many cafes and bars. When there is good weather, all the locals gather there, on the channel parapet, or at tables in the street.

The best place in the city. But, sometimes it's a little crowded.
