Defense
The new bridge tower was added to the huge castle of Hunedoara during the first phase of construction, between 1440 and 1444. Before this, the only defense was a square, three-story tall tower in the northwestern part of the fortress. In the 17th century, an entry was added onto the ground floor, which is still in use today. The tower, which was the castle' defense, stopped serving as such, and where the area where the guards slept were turned into residential areas.
