Central bank of the UK

The Bank of England is the central bank of the UK and its main building is in the center of the City, in Threadneedle Street, actually known as Our Lady of Threadneedle Street. The bank has over 300 years of history and the present location isn't the original one as the bank moved in the eighteenth century, occupying at first only a portion of the building that we see today. Throughout history it expanded taking the land of adjacent houses and taverns. It even expropriated a nearby cemetery which had unleashed a series of stories about ghostly apparitions. The bank's main task is to promote the stability of the country through issuing money and setting interest rates in order to control inflation.

At The Bank of England Museum you can learn more about the work the organization has done in the past and continues to do today. Different rooms display exhibits with coins from different eras, the history of the Bank, interactive displays illustrate the economic concept of inflation, European history and its relation to the pound, etc. Samples of silver and gold are presented and it's even possible to manipulate a gold bar of about 13 kilos.
