Merry Cemetery
The Merry Cemetery is located in Sapânta, in the region of Maramures. In 1934, Stan Patras began working in the cemetery of Sapânta. Due to his vivid imagination and creativity, he began to use wood to carve tombstones. As Sapanta is a small town, Stan told everyone in the town about his work and so he began to carve on gravestones a scene from the life of the deceased. Stan told stories, strengths, weaknesses and vices, always with a friendly tone. Even in some he told the story of how the people died. Despite being a cemetery, breathe happiness. The colors welcome this celebration of life histories, yellow, red, white but mostly blue, which is the official color of men's suits at parties.
