1 review of The Meadows

A historic part of the university

The Meadow, part of the 60 hectare grounds of Christchurch College, is a historic part of the university that is open daily all year except for Christmas. Keep an eye out for the opening hours, which vary with the seasons. At the end of the Long Walk, you get to the edge of the Thames, known here as Isis and much smaller than it will become when it reaches London. During the academic year, you can see students boating on the river, which is called the River Cherwell where it flows through the East Meadow. Normally, you can enter the street from St. Aldgate's, where you'll find the war memorial and the memorial garden.

The Meadow is also popular among students from other universities, who come here to eat lunch or play sports on weekends. You can see a few rare breed Longhorn sheep grazing on the meadow grass on summer. They live in a nearby barn in winter. The flock started with just 26 animals in 1986, and today there are almost 60 of them.
