The Humpback Whales of Ecuador

On the Ecuadorian coast, from June to September, you can observe the humpback whales that are traveling from Antarctica to mate and have babies. In Puerto Lopez you can rent a boat and watch them. There are many tour companies that offered to take us a few miles offshore to observe them more closely, often in a reckless manner as the person who takes the boat literally "chases" the whale. Still, it's a show worth seeing.
