Bizarre and beautiful
The House on the Rock is an architectural wonder built high atop Deer Shelter Rock in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. The mastermind behind this stunning abode was Alex Jordan Jr., a preeminent American modernist architect who, according to legend, let loose on an epic flight of fancy after being insulted by the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The home has all kinds of borderline-surreal rooms like the “Music of Yesteryear” which is full of fanciful automated organs and music boxes which transform the entire room into one giant musical carousel. Then you have the “Heritage of the Sea” which features a massive 200-ft. sea monster battling a giant squid. There is also an absurdly-large canon and let’s not even get started on the bizarre Circus and Doll rooms! It’s truly one of the most unusual places in the US!
