Lovely to walk around
La Barra del Jiote is one of the most remote places on the Pacific coast of Guatemala. To get there go to Las Lisas village by truck going out of Guatemala City towards the coast. You can change in Chiquimulilla or Taxisco. Then take a boat as La Barra del Jiote isn't on any road yet. Overall for the day the boatman drops you off and comes looking for about 150-200 quetzals. Once there, there are only private houses and 1 hotel where you can have a fish lunch. The hotel isn't very good and I don't recommend staying the night, there are hotels in Las Lisas or Moyuta for that. But the place is lovely to walk around and to spend a day on the coast, if you arrive in time ask the boatman to take you through the mangroves to see birds and local flora.
