The Former Patagonian Railway Tunnel
On June 12th in 1887 the Central Railway of Chubut was inaugurated, and following this, on June 15th 1889 it was divided into two provinces names Rawson and Gaiman, reaching a fork in 1909 which disappeared in 1961. In 1914 a tunnel was built with the objective of overcoming the obstacles and thus be able to continue layung the tracks to Dolavon and years later also to Alto Las Plumas with the objective of getting to the mountains, a project that never materialized. The tunnel, with its unique curved shape was 242 miles long. It opens its black mouth to tourists as a silent witness of an era in which a train ran joining hopes and populations, then destroyed, the tracks and wooden sleepers were removed and it was never known what happened to them.
