The Croscat

En el Parque Natural de la Zona Volcanica de la Garrotxa, entre Santa Pau y Olot, se encuentra este Volcán, el CROSCAT, el mas joven de la zona y su cono es el mas grande de la Península Ibérica. Fue explotado como gravera durante 25 años que tras un derrumbamiento, dejó a la vista su belleza, haciendo así que se protegiera y habilitara para visitas. Su ultima erupción fue hace 11.500 años y la anterior hace 17.000 casi nada!...Tiene forma de herradura y en la cima del cráter todavía se ven los restos de una antigua torre de defensa.

Durante 25 años estuvo explotando para obtener Greda, una arcilla que es utilizaba para hacer ladrillos, y aunque la explotación se paró hoy se puede ver el corte en uno de sus lados, mostrando todas sus capas y estratos.
