The Chew Valley Lake

Chew Valley Lake is a large reservoir in the Chew Valley in Somerset, England, the fifth largest artificial lake in the UK and the largest in the southwest. It was created in the 50s. It's used to provide drinking water to the city of Bristol and surrounding area as well as to control the flow of the River Chew. The lake is fed by water Mendip Hills. Before the creation of the lake archaeological investigations showed that the area had been inhabited from the Neolithic to the Roman occupation. The lake is very important for its bird life and has therefore been declared a Site of Special Scientific Interest and Special Protection Area for birds.
